To extent the life of the dimmer and keep your energy bills as low as possible,When installing a dimmer, try to limit the amount of wattage with no more than 400 watts to a 600 watt dimmer. In other words, put no more than 400 watts of light to a 600 watt dimmer. The same goes for a 1000 watt dimmer. Try to limit the lighting on that switch to no more than 800 watts. It keeps the heat down and still provides you with good dimming ability. Good installation will render good energy bills.

Most electricians, especially those that are not licensed, will put a 100 watt dimmer and put more than 100 watts of lights on it. That is the difference in electricians. There are good electricians and there are others.
